Even PhoneJournal interface it's very user friendly you'll have to face the most complicated part of the configuration. Beacause the software it's very flexible you'll have to learn how the tariff rules are used by the application in order to obtain the expected result.

Adding a new provider

Adding destination types for the provider

Select the branch Destinations from the desired provider and click on the right pane and press Insert. You'll get a new record for a destination. Binding prefixes to the destinations Please select the provider in the tree and click on the left pane. Now you have to add the prifixes and their bindings to the destination types. You have to add the prefixes in the international format. For example: 0033 could be binded to destination: international zone 1. (0033 is also known as +33, France prefix).

Adding a new profile for a provider

Select the branch Profiles from the desired provider and click on the right pane and press Insert. This will add you a new profile (subscription type). The start date is important because you can have different profiles with the same name but not valid in the same time. Adding tariffs to a profile Select the desired profile from the left pane and you'll need to click on the right pane and press Insert. You have to complete a lot of fields, here are the descriptions of these fields:

• name - use it for recognizing the record next time. Example: local night tariff.
• start time and end time - the hours between those the tariff is valid. The default range is 00:00 23:59. If you have more then one range be aware that if you have a night tariff from 22:00 to 06:00 you'll need to add two tariffs: one from 22:00 to 23:59 and one from 00:00 to 06:00.
  
• resolution - this is measured in 1/100 seconds and is the rounding precision used by the provider. For example if your provider is charging you for every minute you'll put 6000 (60 seconds).
  
• minimum - this is measured in seconds and is the minimum number of seconds the provider is charging you if the call is made.
  
• weekday - the weekdays when the tariff is valid * min digits - the minimum number of digits requested for validating the call
  
• value - is the cost of the pulse (if it's calculated based on the duration)
• urrency - currency used for charging, use only international 3 letters abbreviation
  
• pulse value - the cost of the pulse (if it's calculated based on the reported number of pulses)
  
• destination - the tariff destination of the call. Basic destinations are: local, mobile, international. You can add/remove them from the 'Destination'. These destination are defined per provider/operator.
  

About destinations

Don't forget that the application is trying to discover the destination by looking into prefixes. The application will try to find the longest prefix that match the dialed number.

Tariff tutorial with example

PhoneJournal Tariff procesing is bazed on the concept of tariff zones (Destinations). In some cases the telephony providers do not define clearly these zones and you need to recognize them yourself

Because the destinations with the same name can have different meaning abount telephony providers the only way of obtaining correct tarrifs is to bind yeach dialled prefix with a destination (tariff zone). You can see this list by selecting the name of an provider in the left tree of the Tariff Editor application.

For example if you want to add a cost of 0.3 USD/minute for all calls made to France you'll need to:

1. Add a new destination called France in the table Destinations. Alternatively you can use a more generic destination like "Western Europe" if you have the same set of tariffs for the entire zone.
2. Access the prefixes list of the provider (operator) by selecting his name in the left tree of the Tariff application and add the prefix 0033 and choose the destination created at the first step.
3. Now select a Profile (subscription tpye) or add a new one and select it.
4. Add a new line in these table. If the tariff is the same for every day of the week and hour of the day you should complete like this:
   • name = france /
   • start time = 00:00
   • end time = 23:59
   • resolution = 6000 (milliseconds, 6000 = taxation by minute)
   • minimum = 60 (seconds, minimum taxable number of seconds) * weekday = Monday-Sunday
   • mindigits = 1 (minimum length of the dialled number)
   • value = 0.33 (the charged amount)
   • currency = USD (the ISO currency code: USD, EUR, ...)
   • pulse value = 0.0 (used only if your provider is charging using pulse value instead of time and your pbx is reporting this information – very rare!)
   • destination = choose the destination defined before.
